PROGRAM:  Competency Evaluation for ISO 9001:2000.  Section 6.2.2 of the standard states that "the organization shall determine the necessary competence for personnel performing work affecting product quality".  The "Three Steps to Competency for ISO 9001:2000" approach is intended to help management representatives, and others whose job it is to implement this requirement, do so using a simple and effective approach. Concerns about the subjective nature of "competency" evaluations have handicapped many, preventing them from implementing an effective competency evaluation process for their quality management system.

The approach described in this talk is intended for any company, manufacturing or service, to be easily developed and quickly implemented. The three steps to competency are intended to guide the user in creating competencies that work, and to provide samples of forms which can be used to document employee competencies.

PRESENTER:  Mike Kowatch is the Quality Assurance Manager at Overly Door Company in Greensburg, PA and owner of Pennsylvania Business Solutions, a consulting firm specializing in quality system, 5S, and Lean program development and implementation. A quality professional since 1986, Kowatch has worked in the nuclear, plastics and metal fabrication industries. He attended Old Dominion University, where he majored in Geology.
